So necessary
Two years ago I bought an expensive refrigerator, the brand is one of the oldest and most trusted name for that kind of product. The warranty was one year and about two months after it expired the compressor blew out. I had to pay full price to have it replaced, which was a lot. That part came with a six month warranty and in the 7th month the compressor blew out again, costing me even more because of inflation. At this point, including spoiled food, that fridge ended up costing me three times what the original cost was. It wasnât until after I was on my third compressor that I learned there is such a thing as a refrigerator surge protector, but I didnât know where to start to buy one. Then I found this one, and it seemed to be far more sophisticated than some of the gimmicks I saw advertised. Itâs not fancy, nor does it need to be, but it has features that none of the others have, and yet it is still reasonably priced.WHAT YOU GETItâs a well-made heavy plastic box with a 15â power cord. The box has three outlets, all identical in terms of power capacity and there are four membrane buttons, six status lights and a small buzzer warning speaker. The box has four mounting holes for wall mounting near your power outlet.SOME SUGGESTIONSIâve rated this product for its design and features, which are class leading. Of course there is no way of knowing if it can or will save my refrigerator until something bad happens and this thing protects my expensive fridge. Thatâs itâs job. There are some ways they could improve it and I hope they are open to suggestions. One is obvious, they use a standard three-prong plug. Because it has to fit in the tight space behind a refrigerator I would suggest that they use a right-angle plug instead of the standard U.S. grounded plug. Another thing is that the cord is very short at 15â, so short that the protector has to be mounted on the wall behind the refrigerator assuming the power outlet is in the middle of the space, which is the most common place builders put it. That makes it impossible to reach to use the time delay buttons once the fridge is plugged in and moved into position. And if the buzzer alarm goes off, which requires the user to push the reset button, the fridge has to be moved out of whatever space it is in, which may be difficult for many people. I think the cord should be long enough to allow the protector to be mounted on a wall or cabinet where it can be reached next to the refrigerator or an even better idea is build it with a magnetic back so it can be mounted to the side of the refrigerator where it can be easily reached to see the status lights and push the necessary buttons. The buttons are membrane type, which is okay because you wonât need to press them often but that type of button is known for becoming brittle with age and is rarely used anymore One quirk that I donât like is that the buzzer is designed to warn you every time there is an issue, which in some neighborhoods could be often. That can get annoying very quickly. As mentioned above the cord is so short that for most people the unit will end up deeply buried behind the refrigerator and the only way to mute the buzzer is to long press the power button on the unit. That could mean moving the refrigerator out of a wall alcove, a difficult task for some. I would like to see some way of disabling the buzzer completely, itâs not necessary because there is no human intervention necessary when it buzzes, it is there only to tell you that the surge protector is doing its job.YES NO MAYBEDespite the negatives, they are all things that can be overcome. For example, you could get a short heavy duty grounded power extension with a right angle plug to permit you to mount the box where you can see it and reach it. One last thing, note that there are three power outlets, most people will probably never use more than one. They explain that you might want to purchase this surge protector for some other purposes but DO NOT use it for a computer â the box is designed to disconnect the power for 3, 5 or 10 minutes and the last thing you would want if there is a surge is to have your computer go off and you lose everything. The same warning is true for anything else that should not be disconnected, like security systems, oxygen and other health products, your TV, etc. I would advise using it only for one purpose at a time, like the fridge, not other kitchen appliances at the same time. To me that would mean simply ignoring that there are more than one outlets, you really donât need them.

Definitely worth getting. Power on delay is a must.
We live out in the country now, so power grid stability is a problem. I hired a local solar company to give me whole home battery backup and the Sol-Ark inverters they used are worse than the power company! Thus, I’m having to put protection on all my appliances and air conditioners.I tested two of these against another cheaper brand and the other failed miserably. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the orange and yellow stickered version of these from the same vendor is $5! (Yellow is more expensive right now). These default to a 3 minute timeout after power is applied before they apply power to your appliance. There’s a button to bypass that, although I couldn’t get it to work in my tests. The setting can be changed to 5 or 10 minutes, but 3 should be enough for most appliances. The main point here is to protect a refrigerator from having power re-applied to a stalled compressor that’s still under load from running. You want to leave it off long enough for the pressure the equalize in the system so that the compressor can restart easily. I MIGHT increase to five minutes, but we’ll see. That said, my nice new smart refrigerator should already have a safety circuit like this in it so that it doesn’t start the compressor again, but I doubt my freezers do.As far as the over/under voltage, I couldn’t test the over voltage condition, but the unit worked reliably when the power dipped below 90V or so, shutting off the power and playing the alarm tone, then taking three minutes to turn the load back on when power is restored. As far as surge protection, you kind of have to take it at face value, unless you happen to have access to a surge and burst tester! The short cord is a bit challenging for installation, but a longer cord would just add more loss and really isn’t necessary. It’s not like you really need this where you can see it. It does have some status LEDs, so it might be nice to see, but it’s not exactly decorative!Overall, I would say this is a reasonable investment to protect your expensive refrigerator and other appliances. I may have to get another one or two.

Easy to use
With it, you can avoid a lot of troubles caused by unstable voltage. The yellow shell design is eye-catching, easy to identify and find, and the material is also very solid, so it is very safe to use. The three-socket design is particularly practical. In addition to the refrigerator, it can also protect other small appliances at the same time, which is very convenient. The built-in time delay function is a highlight. It can effectively protect the refrigerator from frequent startup after a sudden power outage and extend the life of the equipment. The status display of the LED indicator is very clear, and you can see at a glance whether it is working properly. The 110dB alarm sound is loud enough to be heard even in other rooms. It is very timely and reliable when encountering voltage abnormalities. The overall installation is very simple, just plug it in and use it, no additional settings are required
